【課文原句】Finding and keeping the right balance between progress and the protection of cultural sites can be a big challenge.

在進步和保護文化遺址之間找到和保持適當的平衡可能是一個巨大的挑戰(zhàn)。

【詞匯精講】句中的balance是名詞,意為“平衡”,balance也可作及物動詞,意為“使平衡”。

(1)not only...but also...連接的兩個成分作主語時,其謂語在人稱和數上通常與鄰近的主語保持一致。

(2)not only...but also...連接兩個句子,且not only位于句首時, not only后面的句子要用部分倒裝。
