Language Points
When you visit a foreign country, it is important to know how to ask for help politely.
當你去國外旅游時,知道如何禮貌地尋求幫助很重要。
politely作副詞,意為“禮貌地;客氣地”,其反義詞為 impolitely(無禮地;粗魯地);
polite是其形容詞形式,反義詞為impolite(無禮的)。
For example, “Where are the restrooms?” or “Could you please tell me where the restrooms are?” are similar requests for directions to a place.
例如,“公共廁所在哪里?”和“您能告訴我公共廁所在哪里嗎? ”是詢問地點的類似的請求。
request是可數名同,意為“要求;請求”,其后常接“for +名間”,意為“……的要求/請求”。
►We must make a request for help. 我們必須請求幫助。
request用作及物動詞,意為“要求;請求”。 常見用法:
①request sth. ( from/of sb.) 意為“(向某人)請求某物”。
►He requested some hot water from me.
他向我要了些熱水。
②request sb. to do sth. 意為“請求某人做某事”。
►They requested him to leave at once.
他們要求他立刻離開。
③request + that從句(從句用虛擬語氣,謂語動詞用“ should +動詞原形 should可省略)意為“請求/要求……”。
► I requested that she should come an hour earlier.
我請她早一小時來。
Both are correct English, but the first one sounds less polite.
兩者都是正確的,但第一句聽起來不如第二句顯得禮貌。
correct此處用作形容詞,意為“正確的;恰當的”,相當于right,其副同形式為correctly。
►I can tell you the correct answer. 我可以告訴你正確答案。
correct用作動詞,意為“改正”。
►You must correct the mistakes in you homework.
你必須改正作業(yè)中的錯誤。
⑵one此處用作代詞,指代上文提到過的人或物。
►I have many CDs, but I like the one called Heart Strings best.
我有很多唱片,但我最喜歡名叫《心弦》的那一張。
That is because it is a very direct question.
因為它是一個很直接的問題。
because it is a very direct question此處作is 的表語,是表語從句。
►The trouble is that I have lost his address.
問題是我把他的地址丟了。
direct此處用作形容詞,意為“直接的;直率的”,其反義詞為indirect,意為“間接的”副詞為directly,意為“直接地”。
►You'll have to get used to his direct manner.
你得慢慢習慣他這種直率的方式。
Usually polite questions are longer and include more language such as “Could you please ...?” or “Can I ask ...?”
有禮貌的問句通常更長一些,而且包括像“Could you please ...?”
或“Can I ask ...?”之類的表達方式。
include作及物動詞,意為“包括;包含”。
►The price includes both the house and the furniture inside. 這個價格包括房子和里面的家具。
