Lead-in
The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Though now regarded as one of the greatest American novels, the book sold poorly to begin with and Fitzgerald died before it received acclaim (高度評(píng)價(jià)). Set in the Jazz Age of 1920s, the story primarily concerns the young and mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his passion for the beautiful Daisy. As the narrative progresses, it shows Gatsby’s rise from humble origins to immerse wealth, all in a quest to win back Daisy, his first love.
The Iliad is an epic poem, which is said to be written by the Ancient Greek poet Homer. It tells the last weeks of the Trojan War. The Iliad is considered to be the earliest work in the Western literary tradition, and has featured in many other later Greek, Roman and Renaissance writings.
