1.Fantastic facts about the butterfly have been drawing Dr. Taylor’s attention. 

◆have been doing sth.是現(xiàn)在完成進(jìn)行時(shí),意為“一直在做某事”,表示從過去某時(shí)開始的某個(gè)動(dòng)作或狀態(tài)一直延續(xù)到現(xiàn)在,而且還在進(jìn)行。常常表示動(dòng)作的延續(xù)性、重復(fù)性以及感情色彩等。

◆draw one’s attention意為“吸引某人的注意力”。

2.Here,as many as 230 million butterflies spend the winter. 

◆as…as…意為“與……一樣……”,兩個(gè)as之間可加形容詞或副詞的原級;也可加“many+復(fù)數(shù)名詞”,“much+不可數(shù)名詞”或“形容詞+a/an+單數(shù)名詞”,還可以在as…as…前加twice,half等詞表示前后者倍數(shù)或分?jǐn)?shù)關(guān)系。as…as的否定形式為not as/so…as…。

◆spend為及物動(dòng)詞,意為“度過,花(錢/時(shí)間)”,常用于固定結(jié)構(gòu):spend time/money(in)doing sth.花費(fèi)時(shí)間/金錢做某事;spend time/money on sth.在某物上花費(fèi)時(shí)間/金錢;spend time with sb.和某人一起度過時(shí)光,句子的主語應(yīng)為人,spend的過去式和過去分詞都是spent。

3.The butterflies that return to the south are the great-great grandchildren of the butterflies that left for the north. 

◆that return to the south和that left for the north都是定語從句。

◆leave for意為“動(dòng)身去……”。leave意為“離開”,是位移動(dòng)詞,可使用現(xiàn)在進(jìn)行時(shí)表將來;leave與表示一段時(shí)間的狀語連用時(shí),應(yīng)改為be away(from)。
