1.I’m really afraid of going to the dentist.
be afraid of害怕……,后跟名詞、代詞或動(dòng)名詞,表示害怕會(huì)發(fā)生某事或某情況,相當(dāng)于be scared of。
I’m afraid of going out at night.
我害怕晚上外出。
【拓展】(1)be afraid to do sth . 表示“因害怕而不敢做某事”。
He is afraid to go out alone at night.
他不敢晚上一個(gè)人出去。
(2)“I’m afraid+從句”表示“我恐怕……”,常用來(lái)表達(dá)不愿發(fā)生的事情。
I’m afraid I can’t go there with you.
我恐怕不能和你一起去那兒。
2.I don’t know why , but I have had this fear since I was very young.
since為連詞,意為“自從……以來(lái)”,與現(xiàn)在完成時(shí)連用,其后可跟句子,也可跟“時(shí)間段+ago”。
I have worked here since two years ago.
我在這兒工作兩年了。
3.I had no choice but to go with her.
have no choice but to do sth .意為“除了做某事以外,別無(wú)選擇”或“只好做某事”。
I have no choice but to give up.
我沒(méi)有辦法,只好放棄。
4.Fortunately,the dentist , Dr. Hu , was very kind.
fortunately為副詞,意為“幸運(yùn)地”,其同義詞為luckily,反義詞為unfortunately/unluckily;其形容詞形式是fortunate。fortunately多用作插入語(yǔ),比luckily更具強(qiáng)調(diào)性。
5.She saw right away that I was scared and told me not to worry.
◆right away意為“立刻,馬上”,其同義短語(yǔ)有:at once , in a minute/moment。
◆scared為形容詞,意為“對(duì)……感到恐懼的,害怕……的”。主語(yǔ)通常是人,指人對(duì)某事恐懼/害怕。be scared of…意為“對(duì)……感到害怕”。
