in the nineteenth century意為“在19世紀(jì)”,相當(dāng)于in the 1800s。表示“在某世紀(jì)某年代”時(shí),用“in+the+數(shù)字+-s/-’s”。
【注意】用數(shù)字表示“某世紀(jì)”時(shí),不要丟掉定冠詞the。
2. Each line has a set number of words.
每行有一定數(shù)量的單詞。
a number of意為“一些”,與some或several同義,后面接可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)。a number of短語作主語時(shí),謂語動詞往往用復(fù)數(shù)形式。a set number of“固定數(shù)量的”。
【拓展】the number of意為“……的數(shù)目”,后接名詞復(fù)數(shù),謂語動詞使用單數(shù)形式。
3. Let’s look at another two poems as examples.
讓我們看另外兩首詩作為例子。
another two poems意為“另外兩首詩”,與two more poems同義。
“another+數(shù)詞+名詞復(fù)數(shù)”相當(dāng)于“數(shù)詞+more+名詞復(fù)數(shù)”,意為“再幾個(gè)……”。
We need another two people to help. = We need two more people to help. 我們還需要兩個(gè)人幫忙。

以下是你如何寫自己的五行詩。
own意為“自己的,屬于自己的”,用在形容詞性物主代詞后面加強(qiáng)語氣。常用結(jié)構(gòu)為“one’s own+名詞”,意為“某人自己的……”。
a five-line poem意為“一首五行詩”。由“數(shù)詞+名詞”構(gòu)成的復(fù)合形容詞,中間用“-”連接,名詞不用復(fù)數(shù)形式。
