About Los Angeles
Los Angeles is the most populous(人口密集的) city in state of California, and the second-most populous in the United States with a population of 3976000. It has an area of 1291 km ², and is located in Southern California.

1. I’m making a list of things for my trip.
(1) list n. 名單, 清單,是可數(shù)名詞。
He wrote down his name on the list. 他將他的名字寫在清單上。
He crossed his name off the list. 他把他的名字從名單上劃掉。
(2) list v. 列出,及物動詞, 接名詞或代詞作賓語。
The pupils were asked to list the sports they loved most and hated most.
學生們被要求列出他們最喜歡的和最討厭的運動。
He listed all the things he had to do.
他把自己必須做的事列成表。
常用短語: a list of … ……的清單;make a list (of) 列清單
Does the club have a list of its all members?

2. Well, it sounds crazy, but I don’t know what to take.
crazy adj. 發(fā)瘋的,瘋狂的,形容人很瘋狂或精神失常,引申還可指“荒唐的”“糊涂的”。
The crazy man set fire to his own house.

People like to do crazy things together.
人們總是喜歡在一起做瘋狂的事情。

3. I’m leaving at the end of July and I’m going to stay there for four weeks.
at the end of 在 ……末端; 到 …… 盡頭。反義短語為at the beginning of ,意為“起初” 。
Are there any exams at the end of this term?

My room is at the end of the corridor.
我的房間在走廊的盡頭。
【辨析】at the end of 與 by the end of
這一對短語的意思都是“在……的末尾”、“在 …… 的一端”,意義上相似,但使用場合有所不同。
① at the end of 用于表示具體事物或場所的場合,它也可以用來表示比喻。
The school is situated at the end of the street.
該校位于這條街的盡頭。
We'll have an exam in English at the end of January.
一月底我們要參加英語考試。
They were at the end of their patience. 他們?nèi)虩o可忍。
② by the end of用于表示時間的場合,往往含有“不遲于”的意味。
注意:
at the end of亦可用于表示時間的場合(見上面第二個例句),但其意義和by the end of有所不同。
如:at the end of January 一月底(指一月份的最后一天)
by the end of January 一月底之前(指一月份結(jié)束前的幾天)
We are to complete the task by the end of the year.

4. Shorts are good, or you can wear light trousers.
shorts名詞,意為“短褲”;trousers名詞,意為“褲子”。shorts和trousers本身就是復(fù)數(shù)形式,無單數(shù)形式。
表示“一條短褲/褲子”用a pair of shorts/trousers。
I usually wear shorts in summer. 在夏天,我通常穿短褲。
I’m looking for a pair of trousers for my daughter.
我正在給我女兒找一條褲子。
5. Your bag mustn’t weigh too much.
weigh此處作不及物動詞,意為“重量有……;重……”。提問重量可用how much或how heavy。weigh也可作及物動詞,意為“稱……的重量”。
—How much does Tony weigh? 托尼有多重?
—He weighs 60 kilos. 他重60千克。
She weighed the meat.
她稱了肉的重量。
6. You’d better ask the travel company about the total weight for all your bags.
you’d better是you had better的縮略形式。had better是固定短語,意為“最好”,其后接動詞原形,表示建議。had better無人稱和數(shù)的變化。
had better do sth.意為“最好做某事”;
had better not do sth.意為“最好不要做某事”。
You’d better come early. 你最好早點來。
We had better not eat too much. 我們最好不要吃得太多。
7. Oh, by the way, don’t forget to take your passport.
(1) by the way意為“順便說一下;順便問一下”,為插入語,用于轉(zhuǎn)入另一話題。
By the way, there will be a speaking competition next week.
順便說一下,下周將有一個演講比賽。
By the way, where is the post office?
順便問一下,郵局在哪兒?
(2) forget to do sth. 意為“忘記做某事(事情未做)”;
forget doing sth. 意為“忘記做了某事(事情已經(jīng)做完)”。
