1. People say that “an elephant never forgets”.
人們說(shuō)“大象從不遺忘東西”。
forget作動(dòng)詞, 意為“忘記”, forget+名詞/代詞意為“忘記某物/某人”。例如:
很抱歉, 我忘記了你的名字。
I am sorry but I forget your name.
2. We must save the trees and not buy things made of
ivory. 我們必須拯救樹(shù)木, 不買(mǎi)由象牙制成的東西。
(1)made of ivory “由象牙制成”, 此處為過(guò)去分詞短
語(yǔ)作后置定語(yǔ), 修飾前面的名詞things。
(2)be made of “由……制成”, 可以看出原材料。
3. But elephants are in great danger.
但是大象正處在很大的危險(xiǎn)中。
danger為名詞意為“危險(xiǎn)”, in great danger意為“處于極大危險(xiǎn)之中”,其反義詞組為out of danger “脫離危險(xiǎn)”。
現(xiàn)在很多物種都處于危險(xiǎn)之中。
