once upon a time意思是“從前；很久以前”，這是講故事常用的開頭語。類似的表達還有l(wèi)ong, long ago, a long time ago等。

Once upon a time, there lived a giant in the garden.
2. They ran away and dared not come back.
他們逃走了，不敢再回來。
run away 逃跑，走掉；逃脫
警察來時小偷已經(jīng)跑了。
The thief had run away when the policemen came.
我的瓶子上有一個洞，水都流走了。
There is a hole in my bottle, and the water is running away.

1.在過去某一時刻正在進行的動作。

2. 在過去某段時間一直在進行的動作。
(a) From 1983 to 1998, he was teaching in Beijing.
(b) They were building a bridge last winter.

4.時間狀語：this time yesterday/last week/at that time/moment，at 6 p.m. yesterday when xxx +短動作過去時
