詞。當代詞作賓語時要放在give 和up 之間。
如：You ought to give up smoking as soon as possible. 你應盡可能快地戒煙。
One should never give up his dream. 一個人永遠都不應當放棄自己的夢想。

both...and....意為“兩者都……;既……又……",用于連接兩個表示并列關系的名詞或代詞。作為并列連詞詞組,它通常應連接兩個相同性質的句子成分,但有時后一成分可能省略與前一成分相同的詞。另外,若連接兩個成分作主語,謂語須用復數(shù)形式。
如 :He both speaks and writes Spanish.
