一、情態(tài)動詞can的用法

1.表示能力,意為“能,會”。

例:Can you drive?你會開車嗎?

2.表示客觀可能性,意為“會,可能”。

例:He can be very friendly at times.有時他會很友好。

3.表示請求允許(和may意思相近),意為“可以,能夠”。

例:Can I use your pen?我可以用你的鋼筆嗎?

4.表示驚異、不相信等(用于疑問句或否定句中),意為“會,可能”。其否定形式can't意為“不可能”。

例:This can't be true. 這不可能是真的。

二、反身代詞的用法

(一)反身代詞是一種表示反射或強調的代詞,意為“……自己”。反身代詞與它所指代的名詞或代詞形 成互指關系,在人稱、性質、數(shù)上應保持一致。

1. Can I speak to Jenny, please? 

“Can I speak to..., please?”是電話用語,意思是“請找……接電話,好嗎?”。其中can 可以用may、could等替換;卮鸫司淇捎 “This is...speaking. /Speaking, please.”,意思是 “我就是……”;也可用“Hold on, please./ Wait a moment, please.”,意思是“等一等,別掛斷”,或者用“Sorry, ...isn't in.”,意思是“對不起,……不在”。

2. Could you speak more loudly?

loudly作副詞,意為“高聲地;大聲地;吵鬧地”。more loudly 是loudly的比較級。

【辨析】loudly、aloud與loud

三者都可以表示“大聲地”,但在用法上有區(qū)別。 

① loudly 意為“響亮地”,其基本意義與 loud 相同,常與 ring、knock等動詞連用。loudly 放在動詞前后均可,暗含有“喧鬧”或“嘈雜”的意味。例:Suddenly the bell on the wall rang loudly.突然,墻上的鈴大聲地響起來。

②aloud 強調發(fā)出的聲音能被聽見,意思是“出聲地,大聲地”,常與read、call等動詞連用。例:Please read the text aloud. 請大聲朗讀課文。

③loud 意為“響亮地,大聲地,高聲地”,側重于發(fā)出的聲音大、傳得遠,一般多用來修飾 speak、talk、laugh等動詞。例:Speak louder, please, or no one will hear you.請大聲些,否則沒人能聽見你說話。

3. Now I understand.

understand在此處作不及物動詞,意為“明白,理解,懂得”,不能用于進行時態(tài)。它還可作及物動詞,其后可接名詞、代詞以及“疑問詞+從句/to do”作賓語。

例:I think you will understand at last.

我想你最終會明白的。

你理解他是什么意思嗎?
