Teenagers should not be allowed to drive a car because they don’t have the driver’s license .

Read the statements below.  Circle A for agree or D for disagree.

Sandy: That’s too bad! Do you think we might be allowed to take photos if we don’t use a flash?

Wu Lan: Hmm ... I think they just want to protect the paintings. So if you don’t use a light, then it might be OK.

Sandy:  Yeah. I think we should be allowed to do that. I’ll bring my camera anyway.

Language points

1. When I was a tiny baby crying all night, my mom sang to me and stayed by my side.當(dāng)我還是一個整夜哭鬧的小嬰兒時,媽媽給我唱歌,陪伴在我身邊。

(1)tiny (very small in size or amount)形容詞,意為“極小的;微小的”。

例:The baby put his tiny hand in mine.那個嬰兒把小手放在我的手中。

(2)cry 此處用作不及物動詞,意為“哭;叫喊”。

例:Don’t cry. Your mom is coming.別哭了!***媽來了。

cry可用作名詞,意為“叫喊;大喊;哭”。

例:When he heard a cry for help, he run out as quickly as he could.聽到呼救聲,他盡可能快地跑了出去。

His mom took good care of him and protected him.

2. Why do you think the writer talked back to his mom when he was seven and nine years old?

He thought he was not a baby.

3. How did the writer feel when he was a teenager and his mom said “Please be back by ten”?

He was seventeen and he should not be told what to do !

4. After reading the whole poem, how do you think the writer feels about his mom?

His mom is a good mother. She knows best for him and she wanted only the best!
