A fairy tale is a story that often has characters like fairies（仙女）, dwarfs（小矮人）, giants（巨人） or mermaids（美人魚）.

1. Once upon a time, there was a large, lovely garden.
從前，有一個(gè)美麗的大花園。
once upon a time意為“從前；很久以前”，這是講故事常用的開頭語。
類似的表達(dá)還有l(wèi)ong、long ago、a long time ago等。
Once upon a time , there was an old woman living in the forest.從前，有一位老婦人住在森林里。
2…the giant cried in a loud voice. ……這個(gè)巨人大聲地喊。
in a loud voice意為 “大聲地”；
in a low voice意為“低聲地”。
The girl usually speaks in a loud voice.
這個(gè)女孩兒通常都是大聲說話。
loud ① 形容詞，意為“大聲的，喧嘩的”。
The music was too loud.音樂太響了。
Too loud sound would damage your ears.
太大聲會(huì)傷著你的耳朵。
②副詞，意為“大聲地”。
Can you speak a little louder?你能說得大聲點(diǎn)兒?jiǎn)幔?/p>
3. The poor children no longer had a place to play. 可憐的孩子們?cè)僖矝]有玩的地方了。
no longer 意為“不再”，主要用來表示時(shí)間上不再延續(xù)，常與延續(xù)性動(dòng)詞連用。no longer通常位于行為動(dòng)詞之前，be動(dòng)詞、助動(dòng)詞或情態(tài)動(dòng)詞之后。同義短語為not … any longer。
You are no longer a child. = You are not a child any longer.
你不再是個(gè)孩子了。
【拓展】no more = not … any more也可表示“不再” 。
