語法精析
動詞不定式是非謂語動詞的一種,它沒有人稱和數(shù)的變化,動詞不定式具有名詞、形容詞和副詞的特征,在句中可以作主語、賓語、表語、定語、狀語、賓語補足語等,但不能作謂語。
一、結(jié)構(gòu)
基本結(jié)構(gòu):to+動詞原形,有時不定式符號to可以省略。
否定形式:not to+動詞原形。
不定式有形式和語態(tài)變化,通常有下表中的幾種形式(以do為例):
二、動詞不定式作定語
不定式及其短語作定語,與其他短語作定語一樣,一般都放在被修飾的詞之后,通常表示一個將來的動作,有時也可以表示某一過去的特定動作。
動詞不定式作定語與被修飾的詞之間有一定的邏輯關(guān)系。這些關(guān)系常見的有三種。
1.不定式與被修飾的名詞或代詞有邏輯上的動賓關(guān)系。
He told me he had a composition to write.他告訴我他有一篇作文要寫。
I want to get something to drink.我想喝點東西。
由上述例句得知,此時的不定式必須是及物動詞。如果是不及物動詞,其后就帶一個結(jié)構(gòu)或含義上所需要的介詞。如:
Will you please bring me a chair to sit in?請給我拿把椅子來坐好嗎?
She has nothing to worry about.她沒有什么可擔(dān)心的事。
2.不定式與被修飾的名詞或不定代詞有邏輯上的主謂關(guān)系。如:
He was the last one to arrive.
他是最后一個到達(dá)的人。
Is there anyone to take care of the children?
有人照顧這個孩子嗎?
例句中的不定式動作的邏輯主語分別是one和anyone。此時的不定式在意義上相當(dāng)于一個定語從句。如:
Among the men to take part in the work(=Among the men who are to take part in the work),he is probably the most active.
在參加這項工作的人當(dāng)中,他可能是最活躍的。
3.不定式所修飾的詞在意義上通常是用于不定式所做某種事情的。如:
We have got a new way to kill field mice.
我們找到了一種殺死田鼠的方法。
I think he will have a chance to go to his hometown.
我認(rèn)為他有機會去他的家鄉(xiāng)。
可以看出,way是用來to kill field mice,chance是用來 to go to his hometown。因此,這種類型的不定式譯法較靈活,可譯作“……的”或“來/去……”等。如:
She has no time to see the film.她沒有時間去看那部電影。
