單音節(jié)及部分雙音節(jié)形容詞比較級（- er）和最高級（- est）的規(guī)則變化。
1. 一般在詞尾直接加er/est: tall—taller—tallest
2. 以e 結(jié)尾的單詞去e加er/est: wide—wider—widest
3. 以輔音字母加y結(jié)尾的單詞，把y改成i, 再加 er/est : busy—busier—busiest
4. 以重讀閉音節(jié)結(jié)尾，且末尾只有一個輔音字母的單詞，雙寫末尾的輔音字母，再加er/est :
