1）replying in writing 表示“ 以書面的形式進(jìn)行回復(fù)”。其中reply相當(dāng)于 answer，但要比后者更加書面化且正式許多。此處介詞in表示方式，相當(dāng)于漢語“ 用……方式（形式）”之意。
2）reply作動(dòng)詞時(shí)，不直接跟賓語，須由介詞to
引入賓語內(nèi)容，構(gòu)成 reply to … 的結(jié)構(gòu)。如：
Did you reply to these letter?
你回復(fù)這些來信了嗎？
3）在此句中，介詞by 譯為“ 截止……; …..之前到……為止”。介詞before 也有“……之前”之意，但區(qū)別于before不包含其后的時(shí)間，而 by 則包括。
