A: Whose book is this?

B: It must be Mary’s. J.K. Rowling is her favorite writer.

A: Whose toy truck is this?

B: It must be Jane’s little brother’s. / It must belong to Jane’s little brother. Because he was the only little kid in the picnic.

A: Whose magazine is this?

B: It must be Deng Wen’s. / It must belong to Deng Wen. He loves rabbits.

A: Whose CD is this?

B: It must be Grace’s ./ It must belong to Grace. She always listens to pop music.

Language Points

1. belong to  屬于

►The guitar might belong to Alice. 

這把吉他也許是愛麗絲的。

►China belongs to the third world.  

中國屬于第三世界。

The car belongs to my uncle. 

這句話還可以說:The car is my uncle’s. 當(dāng)表述某物屬于某人時(shí),注意這兩句的不同。 belong to后直接加人名或人稱代詞賓格,而第二句be動(dòng)詞后要用名詞所有格形式或名詞性物主代詞。 

►The book belongs to me.= The book is mine. 

►The T-shirt belongs to Tom. = The T-shirt is Tom’s.   

2. Whose book is this?

whose  adj. 誰的

►No one knows whose dictionary this is.

無人知道這是誰的字典。

► Whose sweaters are these?

這些是誰的毛衣?

whose 用來對物主代詞及名詞所有格進(jìn)行提問:

1).提問形容詞性的物主代詞。

These are my bananas. 

→ Whose bananas are these?

2).提問名詞性的物主代詞。

That bedroom is mine. 

→ Whose is that bedroom?

Hers are in the classroom. 

→ Whose are in the classroom?

3). 提問名詞所有格(不包括of構(gòu)成的所有格)

Those are the twins’ bags.

→ Whose bags are those?

Tom’s mother is a good teacher. 

→ Whose mother is a good teacher? 

4). whose 可針對 my、your、our、their、Kate’ s 等形容詞性物主代詞提問

who’s和whose的用法

who’s = who is,意思是“誰是”,who可以作主語、賓語或表語; 

whose意思是“誰的”,可以作定語、也可作表語,放在名詞前,如: 

Whose desk is this? = Whose is this desk? 

3. Well, where did you last put it?

last  adv. 上次;最近的一次;最后一次, last除用于句末外, 還常置于句子中間。如:

►When I last saw her, she was working in Shanghai.

我上次見她時(shí),她在上海工作。

►When did you see him last? 你最近見到他是什么時(shí)候?

4. I attended a concert yesterday so it might still be in the music hall.

join / join in / take part in /attend

①join指加入某個(gè)黨派, 團(tuán)體組織等, 成為其   

中一員, 意為“參軍, 入黨, 入團(tuán)”。 

join the Army/the Party/the League

join sb. in (doing) sth. 和某人一道做某事 

►Will you join us in the picnic? 你參加我們的野炊嗎?

②join in多指參加小規(guī)模的活動(dòng)如“游戲;比賽”, 口語中常用。

►Join in the basketball game.      參加籃球賽。

③take part in 指參加會(huì)議或群眾性活動(dòng),著重說明

 主語參加該項(xiàng)活動(dòng)并在活動(dòng)中發(fā)揮作用。take an active part in 積極參加…… 

►We’ll take part in the sports meeting /club.

④attend 正式用語

vt. 指參加會(huì)議,婚禮,葬禮,典禮;去上課,上學(xué),聽報(bào)告等。句子主語只是去聽,去看,自己不一定起積極作用。

►I attended a night school.  我上夜校。
